This fall a production by Handa Opera on Sydney Harbor of La Traviata will come to Sydney.  This production is unmatched by any prior production of this famed opera.  Costing nearly $12 million to produce, this production will feature many unique elements that set this production apart from all others.

The most notable element of this production is the floating stage, which sits atop Sydney harbor.  This will give the estimated three thousand spectators amazing views of both the harbor and the Sydney skyline.  The set also features a massive Swarovski crystal chandelier and the world’s largest chesterfield.

Acclaimed United States director Francesca Zambello is in charge of this production.  He has great talent to work with, including Australian sopranos Emma Matthews and Rachelle Durkin as Violetta, and Italian and Korean tenors Gianluca Terranova and Ji-Min Park as Alfredo.

In Australia the New 7 Wonders foundation started The New 7 Wonders of Nature Campaign Australia. Fashion students from The Art Institute of Portland created the first ever fashion show on the festival. The theme was eco-friendly clothing.
“The students wanted to provide eco-conscious fashion options that people would want to wear and didn’t look too plain or frumpy,” said Sue Bonde, department director of fashion programs at The Art Institute of Portland. The Bonnaroo audience will see dresses made out of died dryer sheets and even old Bonnaroo marketing materials. “It’s experimental design that makes a statement,”
